Where to eat & drink in Maastricht
If it’s your first-time visiting Maastricht, we understand things can be a bit overwhelming. Therefore, we created a guide with a selection of our favorite places to eat or get a coffee.
Dinner
De Brandweerkantine
Capucijnenstraat 21
A common meeting place and restaurant for locals, students and tourists alike. Its building previously hosted Maastricht’s fire brigade, hence its name. It is on walking distance just outside of the centre and dishes vary each day, with many vegan/vegetarian options. Note that their kitchen is closed between 16:00 – 17:00 due to dinner preparations.
Oodles of Noodles
Tongersestraat 13
Small Asian restaurant just outside of the Jekerkwartier, right next to Maastricht University’s School of Business & Economics. They serve homemade noodles in broths, many of which are vegetarian. They do not take reservations, so you might have to stand in line since it can be quite busy. The kitchen opens at 17:00.
De Gouverneur

Classic Dutch restaurant at the Markt. You can sit both inside or outside on their heated terrace to enjoy dinner or lunch with a wide range of different beers and other beverages. It is most likely to be very busy during the weekend.
Il Bacaro

Typical Italian ‘bar e cucina’. This restaurant serves every traditional Italian dish - expect fish, meat & veggie dishes and homemade pastas. All dishes are sized to share.
Pitology

Living room styled restaurant right around the corner of Maastricht’s Social Sciences faculty. It serves a wide range of pitas with different fillings and toppings, some of which are vegetarian.
NOON
Griend 7
Fine dining with a chic yet approachable vibe. Their kitchen can be described as European with Asian influences. It is located in Wyck right on the bank of the river the Maas.
La Tranca
Grote Gracht 34
Typical Spanish Tapas bar in one of the busiest streets of Maastricht. It might just be the smallest tapas bar in all of The Netherlands, opting for a tavern-like vibe. Their menu offers a wide variety of typical Spanish dishes, including vegetarian options.
King George

Worth a bus ride just outside of the centre in the district of Amby. Take bus 6 at Boschstraat/Markt or at Central Station to Severenplein and enjoy a varied collection of Middle Eastern foods. There are many side and main dishes, and a handful of vegetarian options.
Café Zuid

Café and restaurant next to Centre Ceramique. It has a terrace overlooking a park next to the river Maas. They offer a range of dishes for lunch and appetizers, their dinner card is limited.
Livin’ Room

Gives away a lot by its name. It is a living room themed brunch bar with a little garden in the back. Their menu includes different types of meals for breakfast and lunch, juices and treats for every sweet tooth.

You can enjoy their coffee in their bicycle themed seating area, where a lot of locals come to study and work. Or order a coffee for on to go, with a little sweet treat.

The perfect place if you’re looking for a quick lunch on the go. They offer many Italian styled focaccias, homemade desserts and coffee.
Dadawan
Kesselskade 39-40 & Spoorweglaan 1
Japanese style restaurant - has a location just outside the Markt and right oppossite the Central Station. Take away and dining are optional at both locations. Their menu is varied, but they are best known for the poké bowls.
With Love Burrito
Markt 4
Small Mexican style place where you can build your own burrito with different toppings and sauces, each with a different level of spicy. They have limited seating options, so consider a take away.
Levantini
Boschstraat 85
Mediterranean/ Middle Eastern restaurant whose dishes are all completely vegetarian. Their menu switches up from time to time to keep things interesting. You can enjoy your meal in their retro style seating area, go for a pick up, or for delivery. Levantini also have a pop-up location during FASHIONCLASH Festival at SNS Expertise Centrum (at the Pop-up Sales event).
Le Smash

This burger restaurant is located in one of Maastricht’s most picturesque streets, and is opened from 12:00 in the afternoon, until they sell out of their daily supply. There are only for 4 types of burgers and optional sides on the menu.

Sicilian place with two locations in Maastricht, one in the middle of the city park, and one at the Grote Gracht (which only offers take away). They offer different types of Arancini’s - fried risotto rice balls, which you can easily eat on the go.

Aims to create honest and affordable dishes for take away, which you can also eat inside. It is a small shop with just a few dishes that change daily. Most options are vegetarian/vegan friendly, and fits best to those who are into Thai/Indian style food. Important to note is that they close early in the evening so make sure to go there for lunch or an early dinner.
Coffeelovers

With six locations spread all over Maastricht, it is almost impossible to miss. Coffeelovers was born out of Maastricht's own coffee and tea brewery Blanche Dael. If you want to try Blanche Dael’s products for yourself, you can find one of their shops at the parking lot opposite of the Pop-up Sales at SNS Expertise Centrum (Brikkebouw 10). Insiders tip: if you bring your own coffee cup you get a discount!

Take Five

The city’s classic dimly lit cocktail bar for over 30 years. Their choice in drinks is varied, but the offer depends on how busy it is. The place is especially popular among students. Fun fact, they still use a CD player to play their music.
Maty’s Bar
Sint Annalaan 7
One of the newer additions of Maastricht’s nightlife. The bar is easily found near the roundabout at Koningin Emmaplein. Their menu has a range of cocktails and bites, switching up with some specialties every week. The bar’s interior has been built by the staff itself over the course of months, and creates a chic but laid-back atmosphere. Their fairy light backyard with picknick benches are perfect for bigger groups and those who enjoy a smoke with their drink.
Café Zondag

Small, cosy café/ bar located on the main street in Wyck for drink and a bite. Their terrace is next to the Servaas bridge (Old Bridge) which connects Wyck to the centre. Often busier in the evenings.
Mr. Smith
Rechtstraat 5
A speakeasy located in the centre of Wyck. Knock their door to get in. Descend into its cellar to taste cocktails with attention to detail. When looking for fun activities, they offer cocktail workshops for groups above 10 people before opening hours.
