FASHION MAKES SENSE AWARD 2020

FASHIONCLASH presents: the 4th edition of Fashion Makes Sense Award (FMSA), a supportive award for a new generation of designers with innovative and sustainable ideas for the future of fashion. The aim of this competition is to encourage designers to think about sustainability and to offer a stage for innovative and sustainable ideas. If you are selected as 1 of the 10 finalists of the FMSA, you will be participating in the Fashion Makes Sense Award Show during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2020 (27-29 November 2020) and your work will be exhibited at the Fashion Makes Sense Award Exhibition at Lumière Cinema Maastricht (1 - 13 December 2020). FASHIONCLASH selects 10 designers/brands out of all entries.
“We aim to continue supporting young designers by offering a platform, both nationally and internationally, in this uncertain time. However, we are aware that this current situation might continue longer and therefore we are working hard on creative solutions, not only for the current situation but also for the future. Please consider that this years’ edition of the Fashion Makes Sense Award might not be able to proceed in the same way as previous editions.”
Fashion Makes Sense Award
There will be two awards as part of the FMSA: an audience award of €1000 and a jury award of €2500. The prize money is intended for the development of a sustainable work (e.g. collection, research etc.)
The audience award consists of 2 voting rounds: an online voting round prior to the Fashion Makes Sense Award Show and a voting round taking place after the Fashion Makes Sense Award Show. FASHIONCLASH will present a jury of various industry professionals for the jury award. During previous editions of the FMSA, members of the jury were, amongst others journalist John de Greef, designer Sjaak Hullekes and Iris Ruisch (M-ODE).
Fashion Makes Sense Award Show
On Friday the 27th of November, the 10 finalists will present 5 outfits* each during a presentation as part of FASHIONCLASH Festival 2020. Additionally, the finalists will be interviewed on stage. Each finalist will also present their work to a jury during this day.
After the Fashion Makes Sense Award Show, the audience- and jury- award winners will be announced.
*if you have not created a work that can be presented on a human body and needs a different form of presentation (e.g. a spoken word, video etc.), please mention this in your application.
Fashion Makes Sense Award Exhibition
From 1-13 December, 1 outfit of each finalist will be exhibited at Lumière Cinema Maastricht. Lumière is a movie theatre based in the beautifully restored, monumental power station of the Old Sphinx factories in the centre of Maastricht.
