Visit 'The Wall' exhibition at Centre Céramique

The Wall (2023) is a multimedia installation that invites visitors to discover fashion in a new and tactile way. At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of fashion as a collaborative process, where diverse voices and perspectives come together to explore the space between the material and immaterial aspects of fashion.

Through a dynamic and interactive workshop, the participants collaborated in creating the sensory installation “The Fitting Room,” which highlights the material form of fashion. Guided by touch, they selected discarded clothes and dead stock to build walls for The Fitting Room, affectionately named after the workshop "The Wearable Wall of Fashion." The exhibition also includes two videos, including interviews with workshop participants, offering insight into their creative process and unique perspectives on fashion. Through these interviews, visitors gain a deeper understanding of the transformative power of fashion to connect people, ideas, and values.

The Wall is a visual and physical testimony to the original definition of fashion as a collective process, its visitors becoming the ultimate bearers of its meaning.

The exhibition runs from 25-27 May at Centre Céramique (3rd floor) in Maastricht and admission is free
Open to all during opening hours of Centre Céramique: Thursday 25 May, Friday 26 May, 9:00 - 17:00, Saturday 27 May 10:00- 17:00.

Out of Touch: THE WEARABLE WALL OF FASHION Workshop

Out of Touch is a fashion project that invites you to rediscover your connection with clothing. Fashion is more than just a product; it's a powerful means of self-expression and connection. What if we could use our sense of touch to explore and connect with clothing in a new way?

Join a journey of discovery and playfulness as we explore the untapped potential of fashion. The project emphasizes playfulness and encourages you to explore the boundaries of self-expression through touch. Experience fashion as a form of connection and creativity beyond just clothing. Are you ready to join this journey?

Out of Touch is a project by Zoé Berteloot, an interdisciplinary artist and aspiring creative director based in Maastricht. With a passion for artistic collaboration, Zoé's practice is centered on empowering creatives to explore their work in new contexts through creative experimentation and events. As she nears the completion of her degree in Interdisciplinary Arts (iArts, Hogeschool Zuyd), Zoé is currently reworking the video interview into participatory art that explores the relationship between the material and immaterial aspects of clothing and the sensorial experiences we have with them.

Out of Touch: THE WEARABLE WALL OF FASHION Workshop

THE WEARABLE WALL OF FASHION Workshop is a playful and sensory experience that challenges how we engage with clothing. It explores how touch can initiate change and how video interviews impact our perceptions of fashion.

Since fashion is a collaborative process, Zoé invites workshop participants to collaborate and share their thoughts and reflections on fashion and clothing during interviews. By removing the participants' sight and leaving only their sense of touch, participants will experience a unique connection with the material aspect of fashion. Participants will be invited into a playful, sensory clothing experience, exploring various textures, shapes, and materials. This experience will help them see fashion as more than just a product but also a connector of people.

Do you want to be part of Out of Touch?

Then you've come to the right place! THE WEARABLE WALL OF FASHION Workshop challenges you to experience fashion as a connector rather than just a product. It's time to connect with clothing differently, using your sense of touch instead of sight. You will participate in a multi-step fashion game that will challenge you to think about what makes you appreciate and keep the clothes you buy. You will lead in presenting your story and journey. You will do two interviews, at start and end of the workshop. The interview will be individual. We encourage you to do the rest of the workshop collaboratively. The six steps of the journey:

  • Your first interview.

  • You will be blindfolded.

  • Using your sense of touch, you select the clothes you want to create an outfit - it’s going to be wild!

  • You will be photographed wearing this original outfit. The pictures will be revealed only before the opening of the Out of Touch exhibition and on the Instagram page of the project.

  • You will use the clothes from your outfit to create a wearable wall of fashion for THE FITTING ROOM installation. You are still blindfolded ;-)

  • The very last interview - Ok, you are done!

You will remain blindfolded during the entire creative and collaborative process, challenging you to engage with your sense of touch. Please note: The blindfolded process can last up to 1 hour - be ready for a fantastic experience!

Practical information

The workshops will take place on the 3rd floor of Centre Céramique in the FASHIONCLASH Pop-Up Atelier. During the workshop, on either Wednesday 10 May or Friday 12 May, you will collaboratively create the outcome that will be presented during the closing exhibition (25-27 May) of Out of Touch in the FASHIONCLASH Pop-Up Atelier. You will be interviewed, filmed, and invited to play and create with used and discarded clothes. You can also bring clothes you no longer wear from your wardrobe, and we'll give them a new use!

It is convenient to wear clothes that are non-ample as you will be wearing other clothes over them. Leggings or tight pants and T-shirts are recommended.

The workshops are accessible to all ages, with a maximum of four participants per workshop. There are morning- (10:00-13:00) and afternoon sessions (14:00-17:00) available. You are asked to attend only one session. If a workshop is fully booked, the date will not be longer visible in the application form. Participation in the workshops is free and you don't need any experience with fashion; anyone can participate!

If you sign up to participate in the workshop, you give permission for the processing of personal data, photography and/or video/film material, within the framework of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). If you are younger than 16, a parent/guardian should declare to have read and agrees to the GDPR statement.
