Choreography of Work
Delia Rößer is an interdisciplinary designer with a research-driven approach rooted in textiles and fashion. Her work emerges from a deep exploration of technological and political infrastructures, where she develops alternative scenarios that challenge existing power dynamics and material systems. The outcomes of her work often embody her own perspective as a textile and fashion designer, using textiles and clothing as lenses to critically analyse and re-interpret the world around us.
‘Choreography of Work’ is a feminist take on technological productions. Contemporary technologies, such as smartphones and AI, are still tied to a particular form of work which marginalized women mainly perform. The tapestry foregrounds female textile and electronic workers in an interwoven timeline of technology, including iPhone Girls, Kilogirls, and Navajo women. The videos were shot in an electronic assembly company and traditional hand-weaving mill. In the videos, workers perform daily, repetitive gestures as a joint performance of weavers and electronic workers. Working hands connect the history of women's work, producing a product most of them will never see the result of.
