Nothing Is What It Seems

Wievien Alberts is a designer and recently graduated from Maastricht Institute of Arts. Her instinctively and intuitive way of working created a signature style; sensitivity to style, colour and her daring nature come together in her work, creating a complete, aesthetic image. As a result, her work stretches past boundaries, creating room for innovation.

‘Nothing is What It Seems’ explores the transformative power of masks. As part of her graduation project, Wievien Alberts designed 29 masks to investigate, reflect, and express her suppressed emotions. Each mask is a spontaneous creation, reflecting a moment of emotional vulnerability. This purifying process helped her to recognize and embrace parts of herself previously concealed, aiding in understanding and navigating her identity. Wievien aims to inspire others to embark on their own inner journeys, reflecting on the figurative masks they wear in their lives.
