Zuzana Vrabelova
Morphing Anatomies
The work of Zuzana Vrabelova is rooted in new materialism and post-humanism and explores the in-between space of human/animal, artificial/natural and how this relationship can be considered within a context of a fashion practice. She uses a knitting machine as a tool to create autonomic artificial skins and structures like organisms, that may or may not relate to the human body.
‘Morphing Anatomies’ explores not just knitted biomorphic structures inspired by animal bodies, but also commodification and objectification of female bodies in fashion. Zuzana Vrabelova extracts materials such as skins, bones, furs, feathers and other ectodermal structures and relates them to their own body as a form of adornment. Inspired by Victorian dresses, the garments appropriate the body and push it into certain positions in order to take form.
