Orlando: The New Chapter

Toneelacademie Maastricht

Orlando is a research project based on Virgina Woolf's novel Orlando by second-year students from the performance department at the Toneelacademie (Maastricht Theater Academy). They are challenged to relate to themes such as gender, imagination, transformation, biography and identity by asking themselves the following questions; What would Orlando do in today's society? What commitment would the figure make and in what context? In other, simpler words, what if the book had been a chapter longer and you were the writer.
The project will result in a joint presentation of short individual performances (personal artistic investigations) that are theatrical translations of the new 'chapter' for Orlando.
