FASHIONCLASH and Amarte are joining forces to offer artists from different disciplines the opportunity to experiment with fashion and present new work during FASHIONCLASH Festival (15-17 November 2024) in Maastricht.

Are you an artist based in the Netherlands? Have you always wanted to collaborate with a fashion designer and relate to the fashion context? This could be something for you!

For who?

FASHIONCLASH and Amarte are looking for 3 artists with an intrinsic motivation and curiosity to relate to fashion as a discipline. FASHIONCLASH has already realized many crossovers, mainly focused on collaboration between fashion and theater, dance and film. But there are many more art disciplines suitable for clashing with fashion, such as music, light & sound art, visual arts, photography, literature, and many more.

This open call is specifically intended for a new generation of artists. Anyone who identifies as an artist, regardless of education, discipline and background, is welcome to apply. Selected artists are linked by FASHIONCLASH to a fashion maker to develop new work. The new work, by the 3 duos, will be presented during FASHIONCLASH Festival in Maastricht (15-17 November 2024)

The work you will create will be created in dialogue with the fashion designer. Some examples of possible work:

A music performance, where costume is part of the narrative;
A site-specific multimedia experience;
An installation in public space or exhibition;
A spoken word performance;
An interactive work in which the audience is involved;
A performance for a specific program part, for example for the opening of the festival.

The work that is developed is the artistic property of the duos and is created from an equal position of the artist and the fashion maker. FASHIONCLASH encourages you to develop work that can also be shown at other festivals and events after FASHIONCLASH Festival.

What can selected applicants expect?

If you are selected, you will first be connected to a fashion maker that matches your profile, fascination and motivation. FASHIONCLASH will focus on its own network of makers for this. After a mutual agreement, you kick off and draw up your own time schedule.

All individual participants receive an honorarium of €2250. There is €1000 per duo for material costs. There is also a budget for travel and accommodation costs, intended for collaboration moments and 2 overnight stays in Maastricht during FASHIONCLASH Festival.

FASHIONCLASH coaches the artistic process, supports technical needs and organizes the presentations productionally during FASHIONCLASH Festival 2024. With each duo will be looked at a suitable form of presentation, location and context within the festival program.

Who assesses the applications and when can the applicants expect a result?

A selection committee from both Amarte and FASHIONCLASH will select three artists. The results will be announced by email no later than Friday 5 July. After the selection, FASHIONCLASH connects you to a fashion maker.a fashion designer and relate to the fashion context? This could be something for you!

How to apply?

Complete the application form, including the requested attachments via the application form. In addition to a fully completed application form, you must submit a portfolio in .pdf(max. 10 A4) and a CV in .pdf. The delivery specifications can be found in the application form.

What is Amarte?

The Amarte Foundation was founded in 2019 by a number of families that share a deep love for the arts. Together they decided to offer financial means to innovative artists and support projects in music, theatre, film, visual arts, and literature. Amarte would like to serve as a springboard for artists, which is why we offer both development grants and project grants to realize relatively small scale projects.
