Exhibition
‘Future of Fashion’ was a multidisciplinary exhibition composed out of work of more than 30 emerging designers and artists from The Netherlands and Flanders. The exhibition represented a broad spectrum of fashion design aesthetics, visions and various approaches to fashion. The presented work stood out for its concept, experimental material and textile, innovative shapes and tailoring. In addition to fashion the exhibition featured screenings of interdisciplinary fashion films and performances.

Among the participants there are award winning designers like Marlou Breuls and Nikki Duijst, avant-garde designers’ collective Das Leben Am Haverkamp and promising theatre makers like Lotte Milder and Milou van Duijnhoven. The selection of participants is an eclectic mix of designers that graduated from the top schools such as AMFI, ArtEZ Arnhem, MAFAD, KABK, Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp and Theatre Academy Maastricht. FASHIONCLASH gathered a team of theatre performers that will bring the exhibition alive. Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck created an overall concept that serves as a platform to connect the physical space of the exhibition with performance space and engage interactions with the audience.

Performances
The opening weekend contained a two day event with performances by promising Dutch theatre performers Lotte Milder, Mami Izumi, Anthony van Gog and Milou van Duijnhoven. In addition a group of Chinese dancers from a local dance company have where included in the series of performances. The scenography and (art) direction is created in cooperation with Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck.

Mami Izumi started the show with an interactive performance, setting the curiousity and concentration for what awaits behind the curtian installation. Inside the installation Lotte Milder performs an addapted version of 'One, no one, 100.000'. Followed by an explosive 'Phoenix' by Milou van Duijnhoven and a performance by Anthony van Gog.
The whole presentation featured five individual performances that where connected with theatrical acts inspired by the concept to guide the audience through various ways to experience the exhibition. This live performance element within an exhibition context is a unique approach to showcase contemporary fashion and create a more enriched experience for the viewer.

Scenography
Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck created an overall concept that served as a platform to connect the physical space of the exhibition with performance space and engage interactions with the audience.
“The White Curtain Labyrinth” scenography concept designed by Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck for Future of Fashion, explored the idea of perceiving from a fixed perspective. On the one hand creating a highly aesthetic framed space with using white pleated curtains and on the other hand visualizing a playful deconstructed space. Embracing the existing space and translating it to a performative spatial exhibition.

This multidisciplinary exhibition represents the quality of craftsmanship and a broad spectrum of fashion design aesthetics of talented designers who are linked to Maastricht by origin or education. The presented work stands out for its textile and material research, innovative tailoring or the conceptual approach. This exhibition gives a glimpse of authentic ideas offered by a new generation of visionaries that are shaping the new history of Maastricht, a city with a long tradition of arts and crafts and known for its sense of style, quality of life and dynamic cultural scene. Most of the featured designers are alumni of MAFAD, the Maastricht Academy of Fine Arts and Design. Among them you can see pieces of the 2015 fashion design graduates, a group of promising designers who present themselves under the name of 'About 11'. In addition to the exhibited fashion designs video's are on display showing highlights of the 7th edition of FASHIONCLASH Festival – The Gender edition - including the performance ' Tabula Rasa ' , developed by FASHIONCLASH in cooperation with dance company Project Sally Maastricht and designer Mieke Kockelkorn with the aim to provide the awareness of - and transcend conservative gender roles in our society. Tabula Rasa is a message of freedom. The theme of gender is also expressed in the performance ' The mutants' by Lotte Milder, a student at the famous Maastricht Theatre Academy. The surprising clash of fashion and textile design, video and performance offers an impression of the unique interdisciplinary approach of FASHIONCLASH.

Dutch Days coming to Chongqing and Chengdu this September

In September of this year, the Consulate-General in Chongqing and the Netherlands Business Support Office (NBSO) in Chengdu will organize “Dutch Days” in West China’s metropolises of Chongqing (16-20 September) and Chengdu (23-27 September). Chongqing is new territory for the Dutch Days, becoming the latest addition to the growing list of Chinese cities in which this series of Dutch events is hosted. In Chengdu, a first edition of Dutch Days Chengdu was already held successfully last year. The Dutch creative industries will play a leading role in both cities’ programmes. Coordination of the events in both cities is in the hands of the Dutch, West China-based, consultancy About Asia.

Maastricht Day Under the umbrella of the Dutch Days Chengdu, the city of Maastricht will also celebrate the third anniversary of its sister city relationship with Chengdu by organizing a Maastricht Day on 26 September. On this day, the city of Maastricht will showcase its cultural strengths with presentations, workshops, exhibitions and a film event.
