Ultra Ora

Arva Bustin is an Arnhem based fashion designer, focused on exploring the boundaries between fashion and costumes. Arva uses storytelling and character dressing to create a new world with new rules that accompany that world. Doing intensive research and getting really nerdy about small details and references are an important aspect of each garment Arva makes. In the end each garment or character has its own story to tell.

Inspired by Arva’s own transition, ‘Ultra Ora’ symbolizes the awkwardness of transitional periods and a refusal to change for conventionality. Arva created a world in which humanity immediately went from the middle ages to space in a manic progressive rush. Within the collection Arva works with a cast of characters derived from European medieval archetypes, which are in varying stages of their transition towards space and wear combinations of their traditional garments and spacesuits. Each of these characters portrays the absolutely necessary identity change but also the real struggle to hold on to their core identity.
