Boris Kollar
Soirée of Seams
Boris Kollar has a background in fashion design, research and architecture. He creates both custom made and conceptual garments. Because of his past in the politically turbulent Slovakia of the 1990s, his work today looks for signs of something permanent in temporary situations. In doing so, he plays with what he calls the diplomatic qualities of clothing. He creates new work by talking to others, then incorporating a part of that other culture into both himself and his designs.
Who do we design clothes for, and what are our innermost reasons for dressing up? In ‘Soirée of Seams’ the focus is on exactly those questions concerning our relationship to clothes but also our connection to the maker of those clothes. Here, the one wearing the clothes is not a distant spectator but an equal participant. In an intimate setting, the performance combines surreal spoken storytelling with a presentation of garments. Using various media, Boris Kollar aims to create a multi-sensory experience that shifts the audience’s gaze beyond visual perspectives and experiences and aims for real interaction.
