Talk: A conversation about Fashion & Performing Arts

Thursday 28 September we will be hosting a Talk at De Brakke Grond in Amsterdam, including a bunch of inspiring speakers and pioneers regarding this topic.

This Talk will be moderated by Aya Noël, freelance fashion journalist based in Brussels. She is the print editor of 1 GRANARY, a London-based fashion education platform.

Dennis Vanderbroeck (Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck)

With a background in theatre and fine arts, Dennis Vanderbroeck and his namesake studio combine the two through installations, set design and physical presentations. With a singular vision, each space designed by Studio Dennis Vanderbroeck showcases an interplay between artist or performers and their surroundings utilising innovative concepts, modularity, movement and visual spectacle. Vanderbroeck, born in Voorburg in 1990, studied Performance Art at the Theater Academy in Maastricht before attaining his Master’s in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins in London. With theatrical grandeur, Vanderbroeck creates sets for fashion shows, musical performances, theatre shows and standalone spatial activations. Now working in Rotterdam, Vanderbroeck has collaborated with international powerhouses such as Diesel, Y/Project, TENT Rotterdam, Palais de Tokyo, Internationaal Theater Amsterdam and Dover Street Market across the spectrum of theatre, fashion, fine art and music.

MAISON the FAUX (Tessa de Boer & Joris Suk)

MAISON the FAUX is "a creative studio posing as a grand couture fashion house" under the creative and business guidance of Tessa de Boer (1990) and Joris Suk (1987). MAISON the FAUX creates autonomous, fashionable performances and works as a design studio on behalf of various clients in the cultural field such as NITE, Kunsthal Rotterdam, Modemuseum Hasselt and the Opera in Hamburg. MAISON the FAUX received the podium prize from the Gieskes Strijbis Fonds in 2021 and in 2022 they received the fashion stipend from Cultuurfonds.

Kaat Debo (Director, Chief curator at MoMu - ModeMuseum Antwerpen )
Kaat Debo is director of MoMu, the Antwerp Fashion Museum. She studied literature at the universities in Antwerp and Berlin, and joined MoMu in 2001 as a curator working on the museum’s exhibitions and publications. From 2007 to 2008 she was editor-in-chief of A MAGAZINE, and in 2009 she was appointed general director and chief curator of MoMu. Since joining MoMu, she has worked with some of the world’s leading fashion designers and fashion houses. During her 20+ years at the museum she realized more than 35 exhibitions, of which she curated several herself. She helped expanding the museum’s international reputation, a.o. by traveling its exhibitions around the globe from Paris and London, to Tokyo and Melbourne. She oversaw the extensive renovation and extension of the museum between 2018 and 2021. She lectures regularly on contemporary (Belgian) fashion.

Giovanni Brand (theatre performer/maker and coach of The CLASH House of FASHIONCLASH Festival)

Giovanni Brand is a performer and writer who also works as a coach. In his own work he mainly tells the story of nomads with a great focus on the Roma and Sinti. Always from a queer perspective. What he shows is a mosh pit of language, folk music, fashion and performance art. As he also calls it: People's performance. As a creator he is affiliated with Theater Walhalla, the Likeminds Foundation and Theater production house Zeelandia. He can also be seen as a performer at Theater Mooi Weer and Ontoerend Goed, among others. Since graduating, he has worked for FASHIONCLASH as a coach and director The Clash House program.
